Charlotte Hornets select PJ Hairston with the #26 pick

After selecting Shabazz Napier at 24, the Charlotte Hornets trade him away for the Miami Heat's #26 pick and two second rounders.

they use that #26 pick to select elite shooter PJ Hairston.

What are your thoughts on this pick?

i like it. they get the player they wanted 2 picks further down, which means they pay him less, and get another second round pick this year. I am betting Cho will be trying to package those 2 picks to move up a couple of places.

wish we could turn the 3 2nd rounders to 1 more first rounder

Way too talented to still be around at 26. Hopefully his issues are in the past. Still worth the risk.

LOVE this pick.  Exactly who we needed.

    I wanted Shabazz........

    Well played Cho.

Securing a future asset in a 2nd round draft pick, getting the guy we wanted and needed, and getting another pick at 55 (which is an asset).

And also grabbing a top 5 draft pick without hesitation.

Finally someone that can shoot the ball!

We got our future SG! Loving it. Perfect draft.

I was critical of the Zeller pick last year.  This year, Cho has worked this draft beautifully.  Great value so far.  Young, high-ceiling players at almost every position now.  Very curious to see what he does in the second round.

I liked a lot of those guys available, and was bummed that we just missed on Hood, but it's a great move. Hairson just makes sense.

He'll no doubt help, and could be a real steal with some development.

The only bad thing is we helped Miami.  I'm very happy we finally got a shooter - and at #26!   Draft looks good and with some money to spend we are looking better!

Management is playing this draft like the last poker hand. When Hairston came back for another workout. I had a feeling it was coming down to Hairston or Hood. When Hood was taken off the board it made the selection easy. The Heat deal was likely in the Hornets back pocket in case there were a few shooting guards they liked still around past the 20th pick. Imagine Hairston hitting 3ss from deep like Gilbert Arenas on the new floor.

I am absolutely loving this. Complete opposite of how I thought it would go. It has gone perfectly! Got a guy who should have been gone at 4-6 and got two extra picks to still get the guy we wanted in Hairston. Someone pinch me... I must be dreaming.

If it makes you feel better, I can't imagine the Hornets would've actually drafted Napier over PJ and obviously HOU wasn't drafting him.

He was going to the Heat no matter what at that point.

Heat probabaly knew that too, and that's why the return was modest (but still a nice get).

Reading some of the posts on ESPN, seems some Charlotte fans aren't happy with this trade.....

There may be some fans upset about the trade. But I was hoping the team picked up a backup point guard that was a bit taller anyway. Hated seeing taller point guards like Livingston backing down Kemba. Maybe they can get a taller backup point in the 2nd round or through free agency. I wonder if the Zen Master sent a text to Michael & said you know you selected the guy I wanted?  :paddle:

Miami could have got Napier at 26, I don't know why they made that trade. We were never going to take and keep Napier, Houston needed a draft and stash to preserve CAP space. Still, Cho just ass raped Riley

Reading ESPN comments, there are "fans" who aren't happy with anything.

I mostly agree, but MIA was probably just buying out the tiny possibilty of HOU trading the pick.

There was almost no risk to MIA losing Napier, but for that small amount, I can see where it makes sense to them. Those picks don't mean much for them.

Ensuring Napier if it increases the odds of keeping LeBron even a little bit means the world to them.

Everybody got what they wanted here.

We traded back and still got "our man", the only bad part is that I have to root for a tar heel but as long as he hits shots I think I will live.

Vonleh a top 5 talent, picked at 9. Thought that was going to be our big steal, and I thought Hairston was going to be gone in the teens.

Getting Hairston (for a little less money) at 26 and stealing assets from Miami in the process...that is just icing on the cake. Hairston IS a lottery talent. All of the broadcasters agreed, the dude is a serious baller. A huge steal, and I can't believe we were the ones that got to take the risk on him.

In my book, he automatically starts over Hendo. Hendo now becomes one of the better sixth men in the league, a huge energy boost/scorer/leader for the second unit, and a good mentor for Hairston.

I think Hairston's minutes will play out in Charlotte like they did at Carolina.... remember when he was the "6th man" and everyone was screaming for him to be a starter?  that will happen here and Jr. will eventually lose his spot.  In my book I would start him ahead of Jr. now, but it probably won't play out that way... and with his baggage he needs to come along a little slower anyway....
