Could Julius Randle be available for the Charlotte Hornets at #9?

So yesterday Woj tweeted about Randle: "Kentucky Forward Julius Randle will likely need foot surgery after NBA draft, miss two months"

Julius Randle then Tweeted: "No disrespect but check with the actual source next time before you put something like that out there"

Since then Woj has stood by his remarks saying various teams in the mid-late lottery have his medical info and are worried. Jeff Goodman has also confirmed this with separate stories (ESPN Insider).

So with this coming to light, it is possible Randle is there at nine for us to select, what do you guys think?

I did recently write about Julius Randle's fit in Charlotte: http://www.atthehive...dle-rodney-hood

    I would love it
Seems that we've had shots at talent with injury in the recent past and have avoided it. I'd assume that could be in play here too.
Sure. Youngest guy in the draft. Not a position of need, but BPA at #9.
Frontcourt rotation of Al, Zeller, Biz, and Randle sounds good to me.

Or trading one spot down, picking Stauskas/McD. at 10, and get Thad Young from Philly.

Not sure how I feel about it exactly but definitely agree that there is a strong possibility of Randle being available at #9.

I would strongly consider him at #9, even with Stauskas or McDermott available

I would love for this to happen. Thad is one of my favorite players. He'd do REALLY well here.

I like Randle, and if he slips to nine, he's probably BPA...but the foot thing is really scary for a team that is starting to put their chips in the "win now" category. Al might be gone in 2015 if he opts out, so we have to really think about our window here.

I would personally pass on him, but wouldn't be upset with the pick at all at 9.    He's young enough, and productive enough in college to justify a top 5 pick.  I get that.

If we don't sign McRoberts back I could see it happening, but if we have McRoberts and Zeller... Randle isn't beating either of them out for playing time in my opinon.

I like him but I'm not in love with him. I don't think he fits very well with Al down low.

We're not going to know what is happening with McBob before the draft. Maybe he'll tell the front office he's staying, maybe he tells them he's opting out, but would still like to play in Charlotte. Either way, even Cho doesn't know if McBob will be around by the time our number is called for the draft. If McBob does opt out and says he wants back, but some other team swoops in and picks him up with a larger contract than us, it'll be out of nowhere. Part of the reason I hate having free agency begin after the draft.

Maybe it's just me, but I think if Randle fell to 9 then that would be a perfect time to trade down and swap picks with someone. Randle is probably the weakest looking of the top 8 prospects beside Aaron Gordon, not like that makes him awful, it just feels like he has the lowest ceiling of all the top picks. If we drafted him he would definitely looked at as a project I think even after he returned from injury because he plays a physical style that might not immediately translate to the pro level. I wouldn't be upset if we took him but he's not what I had in mind.

I agree entirely with your comments in the linked article re Parker both in terms of his abilities and his fit for us. Short of us signing a star @PF I would love to see us retain the McRoberts & Zeller rotation, with ideally Cody pushing Josh harder for minutes/starts.

Really tough to pass on Randle at 9, considering he'd be in the mix to be picked #1 overall some other years. This really couldn't have broken better for Philly though, because there's a good chance Sacramento/Charlotte go Doug-Stauskas and the Sixers get one of Wiggins/Parker and Randle, who was discussed as a top overall pick heading into the season. We already know they're not scared to take a guy who knows he's going to miss a chunk of his rookie year for surgery.

Id take Randle..but im starting to think he wont be the only lottery pick available at #9. Scouts are getting quite high on Staus. Im starting to like the guy a little as well.

If he's there... We have to take him. If he only misses a few weeks of camp.. No big deal. He is a younger Zach Randolph.

I keep seeing people call him Zach Randolph and I just do not see that

Cho will call him a "risk" and pass.

No brainer at 9.  He's a better NBA PF than Zeller is right now, bum foot and all.  Draft Randle, trade Zeller and 24 for late lotto and get whomever falls between Stauskas or McDermott.  Win draft for the first time in Bobcat/Hornet history.

Randle is worthy of a top-5 pick. You just can't pass him if he is there at #9, surgery or no surgery.

Let's hope not but if we do this time with no Higgins we now know it was all Cho!

I meant the top 5. Relax

The latest Bleacher report has us passing on him and taking McDermott. If that happens, I'm going to break something. However, I wanted to break something when they took Zeller instead of Noel. I feel Better about Zeller than I did that night, but I still rather have Noel. Let's just hope it doesn't happen again.

    Agreed.

Hopefully, this is the last lottery pick that this team will have for a while - they need to jump on any top prospect that starts to slip.  Take the BPA here.  If they want to fill out the roster, use free-agency - they have the cap room.  Use the draft to get potential all-stars.

Randle could be an all-star at some point - McDermott will not.
