The Official 2014 NBA Draft Week Thread

The week of the draft is usually crazy with rumors, trades, teams moving up, teams moving down, smokescreens, player promises, agents lying to GMs and GMs lying to agents.

Whatever news or rumors you hear, plop it into this thread for us to discuss.

The next few days are going to be so much fun!

I wonder if Payton could sneak into the top 8.

I'd love to see a surprise or 2 in that top 8 to help Randle slide.

could payton play next to kemba in the backcourt. if they were looking at the smaller side of sg's like harris, payton is the same size.

Rumor has it Payton is going 8 to Sacramento, they can't afford to re-sign Isaiah Thomas now Gay has opted in unless they make some serious money saving moves. I have him going to the Kings in my most recent mock (currently writing it), make a lot of sense

chad ford had marcus smart to the kings at 8

I read somewhere that Utah snuck Aaron Gordon in for a secret 2nd workout.

If they take Gordon at 5, how will that effect picks 6,7 and 8?

    People are sleeping on Payton

    19.3 pts 6.3 rebounds 5.8 assists

In a mid-major school. He also only shot 25.9% from three, and 60% from the free throw line.

And no one is sleeping on him. He's shot up from a late first/early second to a lottery pick, possible top 10. If that's sleeping, I'd love to see what loving a guy is.

Isn't Hornets related and won't effect us in the draft, but this got a good chuckle from me. Jabari seems to be a very smart man.

Report: Jabari Parker prefers to play for the Bucks and may have tanked his workout with the Cavs. (via Chad Ford)

Wow, didn't expect that from Parker.  Especially with MKE so close to his home.  But come on to Charlotte big fella!   Do a Kobe-esque trade.  Step 1: Bucks take Parker, Step 2: Parker and his agent refuse to sign.  Step 3: Profit?!

I'm actually really shocked about Saric staying in Turkey. I knew it was a possibility, but the dude was pegged as a lottery pick in a really talented draft.

I didn't want him, but Sacramento would have hit a home run if they drafted him. They DESPERATELY need someone like him to run the offense through...not as a scorer, since they already have three 20+ PPG scorers, but as a facilitator. Saric and Sacramento seem like the best fit imaginable. He'd take over for Lance Stephenson as the biggest triple-double threat in the NBA.

And on that note, Sacramento would be wise to take a long, hard look at McBob. They're too stupid to actually do it, but they'd be wise to.

Being a huge Brewers fan (baseball is a very close second to basketball for me), I'm happy about this. I'm a semi-Bucks fan by proxy. And having been to both Cleveland and Milwaukee...well...in terms of cities, it's not even close. To be honest, Cleveland is kind of a fucking dump, and it's pretty much lifeless. Joakim Noah was dead right.

Meanwhile, Milwaukee is only about an hour to an hour and a half (depending on how fast you drive) from Chicago, and is one of the most beautiful cities in the country. Seriously, if you haven't been to Milwaukee, you should go. It's gorgeous and lively. There's always some huge festival going on, the shopping districts are bustling...it's an amazing place. My first ever live professional sports game was a Brewers game in Milwaukee (hence my die-hard fandom) in 1996, when the Brewers were still playing in the dump that was County Stadium. Somehow, with such an awful park, it was still amazing. Better than any Braves (barf) game I've ever been to. And since then, I've been to Miller Park, and it's astonishingly nice. One of the best live sporting experiences you can ever experience.

Here's to hoping Jabari doesn't start hitting too many sausages and become the hot dog/bratwurst version of Sean May and Krispy Kreme. In fact, Parker should just go vegetarian. As a vegetarian myself, it's hard to be in Milwaukee and not be CONSTANTLY tempted. On every street corner. Everywhere. And apparently their steakhouses are some of the best in the country too. I wouldn't know, since I can't eat steak, but yeah. Jabari had better keep his shit under control if Milwaukee takes him. lol

If it was my call I would choose Stauskas (or Randle if he's still available), but considering the players (we think) our FO is interested in I think it would be a wise decision if we traded back a couple of picks (McDonalds will still be available at 12) to add a player like Afflalo, or even aquire another first round pick by obtaining Boozer for instance. Again; this is not what I prefer, but it would be a Cho move: a short term improvement as well as an investment for the future, and all it costs is a shitload of money.

Sounds like the Bulls are trying to trade into the Top 10 to get McDermott

Report: Bulls have inquired about trading with the Kings for the #8 pick to draft Doug McDermott.

Parker tanking a workout is bogus, he isn't the kind of character to do that, it is hard to see what is and isn't smoke at this time of year, but that is definitely bull crap.

Also, we are bringing KJ McDaniels & Lamar Patterson back for second workouts tomorrow, Rodney Hood is also coming in again after falling ill last time. Jabari Brown (One of my top picks for #45), Jarrell Eddie and Hornet Planet favorite Jordan Adams are also coming in.

Edit: Jarrell Eddie has also been in to workout before, looks like he could be a summer league roster guy, as could Patterson be, but I wouldn't actually mind using #45 on him depending what else is left available.

I really dont want McDermott either. I really agreed with what Bill and Jalen said about him being a 4 in the Ryan Anderson mold, which isnt something we need. I'd be really disappointed with our FO if thats who we end up with.

Stauskas is the safe pick who is really likely to be there for us. With that being said, I am desperately hoping one of the Top 8 guys fall to us and we pull the trigger.

I hope this happens, so McDermott won't be there for us to pick him....

Looks like Embiid's agent isn't sharing details of his injury with all take

Interesting rumor at the top of the draft.  Seems like Jazz really want Jabari.  Getting #5 Favors and Burks while shedding Jack's contract wouldn't  be too bad for the #1.  I might think hard about that if I were the Cavs. Thoughts?   http://basketball.re...-1-Overall-Pick

Utah getting Jabari is a marketing dream lol

That's tough for Cleveland.  On the one hand you'd add the 5th overall, Favors and Burks, though I don't know where Burks would play with Irving and Waiters already there.  Favors + 5 is a good get, but does it exceed adding Wiggins or Parker to their current roster?  Unless you can flip Burks or Waiters in another deal to bring in more talent...

    Irving

    Waiters

    Wiggins

    Thompson/Bennett

    Varajeao

    or

    Irving

    Burks

    **Player returned from flipping Waiters**

    Favors

    Embiid

I easily say no if I'm Cleveland

I'd demand Favors and five from Utah. Not Burks. Favors gives them a center who can dominate in the paint as a defender and be a reliable scorer and rebounder. Then draft Exum or Smart to replace Waiters. That'd be a good move for them.

Over at RealCavsfans they are firmly opposed to the trade.

If I'm reading the rumor correctly, it's #5, Favors & Burks for #1 overall.

Also, if you're bored tonight, there's a live Twitter Mock draft going on between Chad Ford and Jeff Goodman.  Our pick is up right now!

Clifford says he want's size and experience  . Nice article

I gotta say I'm a fan of Gordon or Vonleh if they're available when we pick.  If not..Stauskas or Harris.
