The Official 2014 NBA Draft Week Thread

The week of the draft is usually crazy with rumors, trades, teams moving up, teams moving down, smokescreens, player promises, agents lying to GMs and GMs lying to agents.

Whatever news or rumors you hear, plop it into this thread for us to discuss.

The next few days are going to be so much fun!

Also, if you're bored tonight, there's a live Twitter Mock draft going on between Chad Ford and Jeff Goodman.  Our pick is up right now!

it's entertaining too. ford selected staus at #9

Fuck it, im in on Stauskas at 9.

No way we picking Harris at #9  . Did you not read the link I just posted about Clifford wanting size .

Satus is my pick at #9 too  . But I think Clifford is going s/f  with that pick . I don't like McBUCKETS ,, or Hood that high

If it's the article where he's talking about the Spurs, there's also something toward the end iirc about Cho buying the groceries and although they (he and Clif) are on the same page, they aren't necessarily I'm the same sentence. Clifford's wants won't necessarily dictate Cho's moves.

I really hope we go Satus at  # 9

Dougie is way to slow  and  the past four years showed how little defense he plays , At 6.7  he's to small to play p/f .  I don't really think he gets his shot off against the bigger faster NBA player.

Hood's  defense isn't much better  .  At 68.5  He should be able to get his shoot off better but his handle isn't good to get to the basket . And is a below average rebounder

Neither pick sounds as good as Satus. I think that kid could be a home run pick

The link I post earlier was plublished at 9.10 tonight

In a recent interview with Basketball Insiders Payton said:

"“My agent says that I’m receiving a lot of interest at No. 7, No. 8 and No. 9,”

Payton could push Marcus Smart down a few spots.

I wonder how Cho feels about Smart.

Plow thanks for the link . Looks like the kid can play but hope we by pass him at #9 . That's a lot to pay for a back up point. But  him and Kemba  might work well toghter

Welcome to the dark side mwhahAHAHAH

I don't think Smart is going top 10.  Payton takes his place and I think Stauskas will be gone before we pick.

Hearing the size (6'8) and experience (Duke, Coack K, 21years old) comments from Clifford.  I think Rodney Hood is gonna be our pick.

I don't know how you choose a guy who leaves a workout session cause his stomach hurts when the owner of the damn team played an actual playoff game with the flu.... but thats my feeling right now.

Mustachio  , I have the same exact feeling  from all the statements made  . I have been bashed about saying Hood is on our radar . Like you I would much rather have Stauskas.  But think it's a really high chance we taking Hood.

Hood is certainly on our radar, we met with him in Chicago, went out of our way to get him back for a workout after he fell ill. He has good size and is a strong shooter and a good teamate by all accounts.

However, I think there are just better prospects at the same position, but you're correct he does fit what we need, but certainly wouldn't be the BPA

If the issue is caused by nerves then how is he going to survive when he knows that he'll be stepping on the court to guard Westbrook, Durant, Lebron or Kobe?

He might be the first NBA player to crap his pants at mid-court.

Wonder who management likes better  ?? Hood or McBuckets. It really looks like we have more interest in Hood . But completely agree about the BPA thing.

Ziggy the guy had to take a chit ....

I've decided on my guy. Elfrid Payton.

While I'm still certainly on the Staukas bandwagon, I feel like I'm in the minority that wouldn't be upset if we drafted Gary Harris. I'd definitely would want him before McBuckets, I feel like Harris's size is definitely being overblown here. He's the same size as Bradley Beal and is slightly smaller than D. Wade. People knocking his size seem to gloss over that most rookies are not done growing, Harris will get bigger down the road even if it's just muscle mass.

The Kings are going to throw a major wrench in the works for us.  http://www.sactownro...ngs-three-deals

They seem determined to get out of that pick.  i hate having the spot right in front of us so open.

Would be pissed if Hood is the pick

I don't understand the Payton love. A back-up PG with marginal athleticism who can't shot and only hit 60% of his free throw attempts last season at 9? Good lord, the holes we still need to fill...take Jordan Clarkson at 24 if that's the type of PG you want.

Kings trying to trade #8 pick to Boston for Rondo. Then trade for Rondo's buddy Josh Smith.

Just going by Simmons podcasts and some other blogs people are buying into Elfrid Payton because he's A). He's impressing the right people at work outs and B). He has a lot of the same question marks as Damien Lillard did going into the draft, mainly he went to a small college away from the D1 schools. Not that I agree, that's just most folks' reasoning.

Payton is a really nice prospect simply because he has nice handle and can get into the lane at will to go along with his nice frame. Being able to get into the paint and collapse the D is huge. Payton just needs to learn to make better decisions with the ball in the paint.

Two different players in my opinion. Payton is still alittle raw in IQ and shooting. Lillard was about as polished offensively as a PG can be. Only thing in common is their position and coming from non big schools / conferences. Game are quite a bit different imo.

When you compare him to say Smart and Harris, Payton has more PG skills and is the same size.  All three are great defensive players.  Payton's weakness is supposed to be that he can't shoot, but his stroke is supposed to be looking really good in workouts.  For that sized player I would take the guy with the best handle and the best passing instincts between the three.  I think that is Payton

Also he has the type of high character we generally look for.

ESPN the Mag's mock draft looks really nice, cool infographics and such, more than just some Chad Ford BS: http://espn.go.com/e...t-espn-magazine

Don't like their selections for us, but it's a nice way to read up on some of the prospects.
