Big Al Finishes 8th in MVP Voting

So Big Al finished ahead of Paul George, LaMarcus Aldridge, Kevin Love, Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, Dirk Nowitzki, Carmelo Antohony, Gordan Dragic, Mike Conley

Al finished with:

- two 3rd place votes from Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe and Steve Buckhantz from Comcast SportsNet
- Four 4th place votes from Dave Johnson 106.7 The Fan, Mike Rice of Comcast SportsNet, Steaphanie Ready of Sports South and Steve Holman of Hawks Radio
- Twelve 5th place votes... Too many to list

Funnily enough he received NO VOTES from Rick Bonnell

Wow.  What a motherfucker Bonnell is.  I honestly am shocked about that.  Please, MJ, find some way to bar him from the Hornets and use your influence to get a legit beat writer.  If ever there was a slap in the face, this is it.

OT: Glad to see Al got the respect he deserved from most of the voters.  That list of players he finished ahead of is impressive.  Now, we have the All NBA Team left.  I'm hoping for a first team but I doubt it will happen, but a 2nd team seems certain, while a 3rd team would be disappointing.

    But wow, that goddamm Bonnell...

EDIT: Just saw that Steve Martin gave Al no votes!!! WTF!!!  He gave Carmelo a fucking vote but not Al?!?!?!

Please, anybody who does twitter, can you contact him and ask why he went Carmelo over Al?

Hornets need to fire Martins ass . He screws up ever game any way . Then snubs our best player . Then votes for a bumb in NY . MJ kick his ass out

Bonnell is slow dumb and half ass. The Hornets and Observer need a beat writer who  represents  Charlotte .  He's just a ass tell him to go to NY and get a freaking job

Real MVP's don't tear their plantar fascia in the playoffs.

As for Uncle Steve, his overt fondness of the Miller Lite highlight of the night should let us know where he's at during the offseason:

I don't know, the general consensus at the end of the season seemed to be that Joakim Noah and Dwight Howard were going to finish 1-2 in some order as all-NBA centers. I hope you're right, but it might actually be in play that those two get first and second and the third-team spot is a toss-up between several guys.

    That would be positively idiotic.

I'm glad we grabbed Al instead of Dwight. Straight up. No center in the game can touch him offensively.

Also, what a magnificent twat Rick Bonnell is.

Hell.  I forgot all about Dwight.  I was thinking Noah will likely be 1st team and Al or Deandre Jordan being 2nd/3rd team.  Well, shit, looks like 3rd team could be a distinct possiblity now with a chance of being left off altogether...especially if Bonnell and Martin have anything to say about it.

Voting for Melo over Big Al makes sense strategically. If our media guys show how highly they value Anthony, he might think: "Let's join the Hornets. Jordan Brand, solid young team, appreciative fans and a media which seems to think highly of me!"

    … yeah, right.

Screw Mello I don't even want him in Charlotte. I don't think he can play team ball. It's only me ball. The NBA is fools if he don't at least make the 3rd team . With his scoring ability he should be considered #1  He's better than Noah and Jordan. None of those guys was player of the month the last two months of the season. The best center in the league after the all star break

I demand you tell me he didn't actually say this.

As much as I am on the record with a long, strong dislike for Rick Bonnell and would almost rather have a new beat writer than a SG upgrade, this clearly brings him to a whole new level of despise.

    I truly can't believe it.

Very disappointed in Martin as well.

Way to carry the torch Stephanie!

Slick Rick votes Kevin Love for his 5th place vote over Al

    :biggie:

Did Kevin Love lead his team to the playoffs?

Wow, can't believe there is so much backlash hear, you can't all expect the Bobcats related people to just go all homer mode and pick Al no matter what, they have a right to their opinion, its refreshing to not have each team's people voting for their guys IMO

Melo is amazing.  NYK was plagued by injuries, overall bad personnel unrelated to Melo (see: J.R. Smith, Raymond Felton, etc.), and he's much less of a ball dominant player than people seem to realize. He has good court vision, and while he's an absolutely elite scorer, if he sees someone with a better opportunity to score, he will pass the ball. Melo would fit perfectly with Charlotte.

I've never really understood why people hate him so much.

Very proud of Al for the job he did this season and getting 8th place.  Cannot really believe Bonnell said something like that, especially after the way Al played through it for a couple games.  Did he really say that?

This.   This right here is the problem.   People like this who automatically assume that because someone that happened to play basketball in the same zip code as their address, its a forgone conclusion that you are a homer.

This is why Bonnell and Martin didn't vote for Al Jefferson.  It has nothing... NOTHING to do with his play.  It's just that the thought of him being on their top 5 list will make them a "homer"  (Not that Al was the MVP, but that he would never get a hometown vote)

Because anytime someone happens to acknowledge a player that resides in their own bubble, they must be not be that good.

For the record, the MVP doesn't actually mean Most Valuable Player to his team in NBA terms.    If that was the case its hands down Jefferson.   It's who is the most valuable player to the NBA... which should read, MVTTNBA instead of MVP, because Al was clearly the MVP to a team this year.

Wow, can't believe there is so much backlash hear, you can't all expect the Bobcats related people to just go all homer mode and pick Al no matter what, they have a right to their opinion, its refreshing to not have each team's people voting for their guys IMO

I can't believe that you can't believe the backlash.  Voting for Al is not going "all homer mode" by any stretch.  Dude was deserving of the votes, as many out-of-market voters recognized.  The fact Bonnell and Martin have front-row seats for all his games, and for all the games the last two seasons before should make his great value all the more obvious.

It's refreshing when they don't vote for guys who are not deserving of votes.  This isn't the case here.  I think it's an insult to have guys who report and recognize the Big Al's Paint promo to their readers/viewers and ignore it when it comes time to vote.

    That's bullshit.

Can't blame Ricky B for writing stuff like that; he doesn't even watch the games, he just rephrases stuff other people say,

I guess I should clarify.  Bonnell didn't write that phrase, but it was his inner conscience Rickie Downer who felt that through his entangled soul.

Rickie Downer has said lots of blasphemous things in his life:

Bojangles biscuits are too fluffy and buttery for my tastes.  I prefer KFC's doughy balls all the way.

    RkVygwx.jpg

If you ask me whats the best between Eastern NC and Western NC barbeque, I'll go with KC.

    RkVygwx.jpg

No way he really said that. (edit:just missed your post QC)

And I expect the guys to have their own opinion and there has never been backlash about previous players because we have never had one so deserving.

It is one thing when the home towners are the only ones to vote for a guy...it is completely another when the home town guys are some of the only ones who DIDN'T vote for the guy.

    Still very disappointed.
