Lance Stephenson traded to the Clippers

I'm not as bummed out about this trade as most people here. We need to add a SG that can shoot the 3 this offseason, hopefully Booker, and with Henderson, Stephenson, Hairston, and Daniels on the roster we needed to get rid of somebody. I've wanted Hawes for awhile now, I know he didn't have a very good season this year but his minutes severely dropped and he didn't have much of a role on the team. In the previous 3 years before joining the Clippers he averaged 12 PPG and 7.7 RPG while shooting 46% from the field and 40% from 3. I think he can be a good stretch 4 for us and also play the 5. Personally I would rather keep Barnes for the year and let him backup MKG. But doesn't sound like that's the direction that we will be going, so it does give us an extra $2.5 mil to work with in free agency. I've seen a few people say that they think getting Hawes will be the end of Biz. It very well may be, but I'm hoping that it's the end of Marvin Williams instead. I think Hawes could play at the same time as Jefferson/Biz and I really wasn't all that impressed with Williams this season. Since Williams is an expiring contract I think we could be able to find somebody interested in him and maybe pickup a decent backup PG or SF and/or clear some cap space. I just don't see us giving up on Biz now, he had a pretty good year and he's shown improvements every season and is still fairly young.

Lance has nobody to blame but himself. He expected to come to Charlotte & put on a show every night. That didn't happen. Nobody knows what was said during the end of the season player interviews. But you have to believe his name was mentioned. As bad as Lance played you couldn't expect the Hornets to get a lot in return for him. If Hawes can contribute anything at all that's better than nothing. Thanks for your service Maxiell but nobody wants to see another season of that either.

Lance getting a lot of blame for an all around shit season by the whole team and staff.   Lotta people gonna be grasping for straws when the scapegoat isn't here next season and we're still a 30+ win team and borderline 8th seed fodder.

no, i fully expect that to happen anyway. i don't blame him for a bad season. but it is/was clear that he didn't fit well as a player (at least to my eyes).

Substitute any, and I mean any, other player worth $9 mil a year in for Lance on our team last season. Are we a better team? Absolutely.

That's the point. That's why he's gone - on top of a plethora of other reasons.

    fake trade 2:

barnes + marv for eric gordon

    Kemba +9 for 4

The Knicks undoubtedly working out guys in the 8-14 range. Any idea on their price of moving back?

They want a pick in that range plus a young veteran. They are trying to do a two for one. But only if Towns, Okafor and Russell are off the board at No. 4. I don't think they'd actually do a deal until draft night.

    Kemba +9 for 4

If Towns, Okafor and Russell are the first three picks, why would we want to move up to #4?

I feel like Russell will be at 4 anyways.  PHILLY seems to love Kristaps

    Mudiay.

    Mudiay.

mmm. no.   thats a stupid gamble.

You're taking the chance that Mudiay is better than Kemba.  in your head that might be obvious, but it's as far from a lock as it can be.  Kemba is a borderline all star guard right now, Mudiay is an unknown.

If we trade up to 4 because the top 3 are gone.  We'd better be taking Kristap.

Mudiay would already run circles around Kemba.  That dude is a freak, if he would have gone to SMU he'd belong in the consensus top 4.

Henderson opted in today, like many expected him to opt out....pure conjecture on my part but have a feeling Lance being traded played a part in Hendo deciding to come back.

No connection at all to him opting in. Henderson was never going to opt out this year. It would've been incredibly foolish by him as he will be in a contract year next year and it will simultaneously happen with the new League revenue deal.

Windows stands to make a lot more money with even a halfway decent year this year . The hornets brass knew that he was coming back .

so "according to your sources" this won't have any effect on Booker being the Hornets' guy?

    Kemba +9 for 4

Wouldn't do Kemba, but we have other players that might work.

To get real crazy, I'm wondering if we could pick up the 4th only to trade back a couple of spots to get Hezonja. I like the 4th pick position for us, but I wouldn't trade Kemba for it, at least not with our 9th also.

I love Kristaps. I think he'll be great. Feel like Mudiay is the safer pick though.

Let's be real here, the trade sucks - even if you hated Lance.

    Based on what "real" criteria?

Count me as one who thinks Mudlay will prove to be a very good player.  Much rather have the good fortune to draft  Russell though.  But I think Mudlay has a much higher deiling than Kemba.  But I do love having Kemba Walker on the Hornets.

I loved the signing of Lance and yeah I'll admit I was wrong. But Hawes I think is a good fit for us, and he'll work well coming off the bench and playing in certain situations with Al. That's more than Lance offered.

As for the draft, I wouldn't mind seeing some trade action - lot of people seem to think we don't have much talent on the roster, so I'm for anything to bring in shooters and guys that can create their own offense. Just don't take another defender with good heart - everything we can do this off season needs to be geared toward offense. Cliff is good enough to make us a pretty good defensive team on his own.
