PJ Hairston - YMCA Altercation

Seeing lots of posts on twitter saying that PJ punched a minor at a YMCA in Durham. Not sure how credible it is. Even if it is not true, it is disheartening that he would continue to be mentioned in things like this.

Yep...I bet that a lot of folks who act like he has gone Aaron Hernandez or something will be all on his bandwagon after a couple of summer league games.

If he drops 35 tomorrow and plays a lick of D - might be the BC Powder to his off the court side.

I hope no one overreacts one way or the other with his performance tomorrow. If he has a bad day, he has a bad day. He's gonna have them. If he has a great one, that's good, but Cody had a lot of great games in SL last year too. So, I mean...I'm really excited to see P.J., Noah, and Cody tomorrow, but I'm not going to put much stock in anything other than effort. Basketball is one of the hardest team sports in the world to be inconspicuously lazy. If you're not trying, we can tell. So if P.J. goes out and puts effort onto the court (same with Cody and Noah), I'll view it as a win, and won't take much more out of how tomorrow goes.

EDIT: I don't know why I say I hope no one overreacts. Naturally, everyone will. Probably myself included, a bit.

You are actually the most likely candidate.

:P nah. I'm fine with a bad SL performance, as long as players are trying. It becomes a problem when effort doesn't translate to scoring/rebounding/passing/defending at the high levels we expect. I've also been pretty understanding about this whole thread. P.J. got into a fight, it was stupid, he's going to face consequences, time to move on. I don't really know much about the agent thing, but I don't understand how that relates to his personality. And people trading cars...I mean, unless Gordon was obviously smashed, if they both have cool whips, I'd wanna switch sometimes too. I trade with friends sometimes as it is. His interview was awkward, but I don't think it was damning or anything. I just don't understand P.J. getting heat about his personality over things that don't seem particularly important, the fight notwithstanding. I'm fairly ignorant on the thing with the agent, so I'm going to have to look it up, but I mean, whatever. One game isn't going to change anything that I just said or any of what I believe. I think P.J. is going to be an excellent player. Tomorrow isn't going to change that assumption.

How many shots for PJ tomorrow? 30 is not out of the question.

I miss Shabazz already! Once LeBron signs with the Cavs... Let's trade Hairston for Shabazz!

I doubt it. He might be pretty stupid as far as maturity in life goes, but he's a smart basketball player. He knows he's under a watchful eye, and he also knows that one of the areas he needs to improve on most to be considered for a starting gig here in Charlotte is his passing. Zeller is probably going to rock SL again, considering his improvement after the All-Star break, the expansion of his range, a year of settling in, and adding all of that into what was a fantastic SL as a rookie. I expect Noah to get a ton of touches as well. Hairston's definitely going to try to show off his range and handling, but everyone knows he has range, handle, and driving ability from the D-League. Ewing makes it sound as if he's going to put a lot of the offensive system on his back, running plays through Hairston, meaning he's going to be doing a lot of passing.

Did he ever even get a legit agent? How does that work?

Durham DA dropped the assault charges against PJ. The kid he hit requested the charges be dropped.

    PJ

the kid came to his senses and left it on the court. good call.

i am wondering if there was any "pressure" from anyone to leave it alone

Or maybe a shoebox full of cash showed up on his front porch?

Ended up how I figured.  A couple punches were thrown, everyone admits to that, sure.  But I remember the other guy and his friend were screaming complete innocence, and about a video that was coming out and would show the world how right they were.  It was going to be released in a few hours, then a couple days, then in a week - showing it was all the monster PJ's fault, how he did nothing wrong and could cash in.  Where's this video I've been waiting on?

Funny how the first time around, the guy claims he didn't do or say anything, he just got hit in the face.  Now this time around, he said, well uhh... “We were playing and he said to one of his guys, ‘He can’t go right. He always goes left,’ ” Barkley said. “I said, ‘I just went right.’ That was all I said.

Sure thing buddy.  Here is a more accurate transcript of what you actually said:

“We were playing and he said to one of his guys, ‘He can’t go right. He always goes left,’ ” Barkley said. “I said, ‘First off, fuck your bitch, And the clique you claim/West side when we ride Come equipped with game/You claim to be a player But I fucked your wife I just went right.’ That was all I said.

This is the kind of thing that happens once you get the rep.

Lance is in the same situation.  When you have the bad rep, people start seeing opportunity for exploitation, they start seeing things that aren't there like attitude and resentment.  They see a crack in the armor and they attack.   It's unfair, but it should be a lesson to young athletes.  Avoid the rep like the plague... at least until you have Kobe money, then just do whatever the hell you want.

I've seen Kentrell play personally.  He basically plays like Gerald Wallace meets Gollum from LOTR and the ball is his precious.  Kid goes hard, I wouldn't be surprised if PJ thought he was trying to show him up and got agitated.
