Preseason Game Thread: Detroit Pistons at Charlotte Hornets 10/15

Wednesday afternoon the Hornets face off with the Detroit Pistons

At this time, we would like to thank Joe Dumars and the Detroit Pistons organization for helping us turn Corey Maggette into Ben Gordon and Noah Vonleh. For this transaction we will always be grateful.

To the city of Detroit...

Yeah, the team looks awful. Bobcats level.

Please just be a preseason thing.

Alright a little better now. Maxiel with a pretty awesome block. And Lance finally scored, maybe he can get going, he has looked really bad.

This is what happens when you don't play Biyombo.

Are they taking good shots, but they just aren't falling?

Bro-Ro starting to heat up a little bit.

I hope during the regular season we go back to our normal offense of giving Al the ball.

    SVG still owns us.....

Are they taking good shots, but they just aren't falling?

They've missed some open shots, but I wouldn't say on the whole that the shots have been good. They are running a ton of pick and roll and taking a lot of long range jumpers. There was also a Jason Maxiel post up, so....

Getting killed on the boards (35 to 17). I feel like there is a dude on the bench who could have feasted on all those bricks we put up.

    MKG 0-5?

Even though his shot isn't falling, is his form holding up?

Eh to me it just looks like we couldn't possibly care less about being there today.   Weird subs too.   Whole team showing about as much enthusiasm as this halftime magician.

    Free Biz.

    Those poor kids....

He passed up an open shot from the wing (where he had that one off-season video hitting a bunch in a row) to take a floater. Missed one of those difficult lay ups he does. And didn't hit a pull up jumper similar to the one he made early at Philly.

Can't remember the other 2, but with how he shot last game, guess it's just evening out.

MKG just hit a long jumper!

They're doubling Al instantly and the other guys just can't make them pay.

I'm mostly concerned about how poor our defense looks and Brian Roberts' inability to knock down 3 pointers.

Just an embarrassing performance by the Hornets today.  Clifford needs to hammer them in practice.

    3-20 from deep.....

    and getting outrebounded 50-33

It's early on in a meaningless preseason but Brian Roberts has been about as disappointing as a back up PG can be.  Looks lost at running a team and def not a 3pt threat so far.

Lance seems to be going at half speed, or maybe full speed and the rest of the team just isn't used to it yet.   We got some gelling to do, but again it's early I'm not worried.

I think we are maybe going to get beat up on by teams with a solid front court rotation this year.  Detroit has used their 3 bigs well today.  Not sure why Biz hasn't seen the floor especially following his last game where he had +10 +/- and altered everything in the paint.  I'm assuming maybe a injury hold out?

It's a matinee preseason game.  Color me indifferent.  Unclench, everybody; we'll be fine.

Well, Gary Neal played a pretty OK game.  But that is about it from the Hornets today.

Cliff said he wanted to give Maxiel a bunch of burn today, I'm not sure why though. Maybe they have to make a call on his contract soon? Who knows.

True, true. Just a lot of expectations this year and I'm not used to that. All of our acquisitions have looked like shit. However, Al also looked pretty bad last year to start things out, so I will try to refrain from knee-jerking too much until late December.

On the positive side, I'm really liking what Gary Neal is bringing to the table.

Nobody enjoys receiving a big beatdown like that, and while I mainly agree that everything will be fine in the long run, I wouldn't be surprised to see some stumbling out of the gate. There were some big changes made this offseason and it'll take more than 8 games for it all to gel. Ultimately I think it will be fine, but will be a little rough around the edges to begin.
This time last year, we were trying to figure out how we could get Al to play well and still lose enough games to get Wiggins...now, we are expecting championship level play... I love how far we've come in our expectations but, we need to chill out. 40% of out starters are new, it will take a little bit of time to gel.
