Game 2 versus the Heat: What needs to change?

What do the Bobcats need to do differently in game 2?

More Gary Neal?
Less Hendo?
Ankle transplant for Big Al?

What is your solution for a different outcome on wednesday night?

    1. MKG needs to be on the court. I don't care that he is a liability on offense get him on the court. I know he was in foul trouble today but I want to start seeing him more in the 3rd and 4th.

    2. Less outside shooting and more driving to the basket. I know lots of ppl will look at the foul shooting discrepancy but lets be honest we settled for lots of outside shots especially when the second unit was in. Zeller is key IMO. He needs to be super aggressive.

    3. Stick on James Jones. He's in there for just the 3 and he's great at it. So guard him!

    4. Stop...Chris Anderson. We couldn't match his energy at all.

this can not be stressed enough. In the first when he was playing we built a solid lead, he got in foul trouble and had to sit almost the entire second and Miami took control. He started the half again, we instantly went on a run to regain the lead. He picked up a few fouls and sat the rest of the game and we were done for. He's becoming a really underrated player.

I'm reading Al tore something.  He "felt a pop."

    Oh great

yeah, al is saying he will be good. but him being on the court and playing the way he did the last 3 months are two very different things. it isn't looking good for Al.

more than anything, the bobcats need a shooting guard who can make shots. hendo needs to be a 2nd unit guy by next year.

With a limited Big Al in game 2, that makes the Bobcats task quite a bit more difficult.

I'll also add that Wednesday we need:

    • More MKG. Play him as many minutes as you can. If he fouls out then he just fouls out. So be it.
    • More Gary Neal. With Al limited, we need buckets and Neal can give us that at a much better clip than Henderson
Unfortunately i dont think we have the answer right now.

Theres a talent upgrade needed at the 2 and 3 spot, Both in the starting and bench units, for us to be able to truly challenge the Heat and anybody thats a contender really.

Hendo has been given chance and chance to prove himself and he fails.

    CDR isnt athletic enough.

MKG is just too one dimensional.

Playing two bigs when Bosh is the only big guy on the court for Miami really hurt the Bobcats too.  Having McBob chase a shooter around is not going to work.  Neither is having Big Al guard on screen and rolls.

we were +8 with MKG on the floor today.  one dimensional.

The key is getting Al healthy and I don't see that happening.  With a 100% Al and not so lopsided officiating today's game goes right down to the wire

If Al is as limited as he was today, I say we go small with Josh at the 5, MKG at the 4, Hendo, Neal, & Kemba.

Josh can guard Bosh and MKG at the 4 helps with rebounding

We really need to upgrade our talent at backup PG, starting SG..

I've got to be the nay-sayer on MKG...I've watched veteran players over the years get "ticky" fouls going against them early...get frustrated with the refs and start making "frustration" fouls. I'd like MKG on the the floor guarding Bron but I agree with Cliff on this.

Start Neal...if/when MKG, and you know the refs will get him in foul trouble, has to sit put Hendo on him. If Hendo can't earn it on the offensive end then give him the chance on the defensive end. Just an idea.

But, we're up the creek if Al can't bring it.

    Edit: changed choice to chance..what I meant...LOL

I don't think now is the time to make big changes, especially with a young squad. Just execute better, like we did in the first quarter and hope Jefferson can jump.

Just let me say what a beast Kemba is.  How much fun was that watching him relish the big stage and excel?  Josh's throwdown on Andersen was the play of the game but Kemba's highlight package is a thing of beauty.

OT: Play a focused 48 minutes.  Limit lapses in defense, and cut down on careless TOs and poor shot selection.  With a coach like Cliff, and a playoff game now under their belt, I think this is do-able.

In terms of things out of our control: Wade needs to not look as good as he did today.

If Clifford doesn't plan on playing MKG in the 4th, what is the point in pulling him out when he got his 4th foul in the third. He made LeBron make tough baskets when he was in and that's worth a ton.

Big AL will have to play in short spurts due to his injury. The closer he is to the basket the better. This team must limit the open looks by Miami's three point shooters & force Wade to work harder for his shots. Teams have won with a "defensive specialist" in the starting lineup before. MKG defends & he rebounds. But this team needs a better back-court player to run with Walker. Henderson is just not getting it done. He is a great locker room guy I'm sure but he lacks the "NO FEAR" gene that a good shooting guard needs to have. Good shooting guards find ways to score.

I have no problems with mkg being a defensive specialist, but even guys like Tony Allen can put the ball in the basket when given a opportunity.

I'd say we basically have to be who we are again. Last night I didn't see the Bobcats I saw all year long. Of course not enough post up for Al but that's understable, but a lot of unforced turnovers, pretty much no attacking the basket and as a consequence VERY few free throws. Last night we had too much respect for them, a lot of our players didn't play their game (Hendo, Zeller & CDR especially).

True these days a defensive specialist can put the ball in the basket from time to time. MKG clearly can't be physical & he is limited due to his shot. But Miami is letting Henderson shoot & he is not making them pay for it. Even if Henderson would score 10 or 12 points. Miami can live with that. Not like he is going to explode for 25-30 points on any given night. If the Bobcats decided to make MKG a solid role player coming off the bench for his defense & Henderson a reserve next season. I don't think too many fans would have a problem with that. It's clear the starting lineup needs more scoring threats.

    The outcome needs to change.

my only complaint about the refs:

i have no problem with allowing lebron to play bully-ball. the push with the off arm and the hook on mkg, the pushing under the basket not a single problem with not calling it. it is the playoffs. But, you can't have it that way and then call touch fouls on his shot attempts. if he pushes off to get the shot you can't call a touch foul on the follow through.

Unfortunately, I don't think there are any real changes that can be made from a strategy perspective.  Al has to be healthy.  If he's as hobbled as he looked yesterday, it just isn't going to happen.

The big changes need to happen this summer.  You can't beat a team like Miami (or probably most any playoff team in 7 games) with the wing players Charlotte currently has.  They really need to do something to improve the 2 and 3 spots.  MKG plays hard, but is far too limited offensively.  Even if he was the best wing defender in the NBA, and he's probably pretty close, I'd have a hard time putting him on the floor.  He's just such a handicap on the other end of the court.

The Bobcats were +8 when he was on the court against the Heat.  He was not the problem at all in the first game.
