Preseason Game Thread: Orlando Magic at Charlotte Hornets 10/13

Monday night Aaron Gordon gets his first face to face experience at guarding the Lord of the Left Block.
I think that we can all agree that this will sum up Gordon's experience

A few open questions:
  • Will Lance Stephenson play?
  • Are any of you guys going?
  • Which player's will you be watching the closest?

    1. Well, Al's still very rusty...not in regular season form yet. And as raw as Gordon is, he's an extremely gifted defender. Al will almost certainly get the better of the match-up, but I don't expect it to be one-sided at all. Gordon will make him work for it. That's if AG is ever even assigned to Al.

    2. Lance practiced today and apparently is ready to go. Keeping him out seemed to be cautionary. That being said, wouldn't be surprised to see him come off the bench instead of starting, just to err on the side of caution. Start Neal, give Lance around 20 off the bench for a game.

    3. Yes, I'm going. I made the trip to Greenville with a couple of friends as well, so this won't be my first new-era Hornets game, but I can't wait to be in the Hive again.

    4. Al, because sooner or later he's going to explode. MKG, because even though he only scored six points against the Wizards, he looks a whole lot better on offense, and he looked like the best defensive SF in the NBA. Neal, because I wrote him off all off-season because of the additions of Lance, P.J., and Roberts, but he's proving me wrong in the best way possible. And P.J., because he flashed his huge potential against Washington the other night, and I'd love to see him perform that well again.

Other things: Hoping to get updates on Henderson and Vonleh. Hendo is probably pretty much ready to go, but like with Lance, caution is key. I know Vonleh isn't ready to go yet, but he's been playing one-on-one and is apparently about to be cleared for full five-on-five practices. Solid chance he ends up seeing some time in the last couple of preseason games.

Jeff Taylor's court date was pushed back until November 12th. He's probably staying in shape and whatnot, and I want to believe this whole thing is cleared up and we get him back, but if I were a betting man, I'd put my money on not seeing Jeff at all for at least a couple of months. I'll stop short of saying he's done here, because no one knows what actually happened and it doesn't seem he physically attacked his girlfriend, but yeah...I was definitely hoping he'd be in and out of court last week like he was scheduled.

Finally, I was thrilled to see Pargo play as well as he did against Washington. He's such a good shooter and he's an instant energizer when he's put in. I'd love to see him get some more time than last year. I couldn't stand Ridnour and thought Pargo should be soaking up about half of his minutes, but oh well. Roberts is significantly better than Ridnour, so I'm guessing Pargo is going to get about as much playing time as last year.

Fun side note about Jannero: A fan behind me in Greenville had no clue who Pargo was, but after one of his three-pointers said, "we should keep this guy."

It'll be interesting to see how Ben Gordon plays for Orlando.

I'll be there in 202, probably one of the few lol
I think my son and I will be there. Contemplated waiting to stay new Hive virgin until opening night but since that will be a madhouse, we might break in our cards in the preseason.

I'll be there, too. Can't wait to be back at the Hive.

I want to see how they utilize Marvin with his 3 point shooting. I've noticed he and Kemba have a nice pick and pop play that often results in a straightaway 3 for Marvin. Was mainly expecting him to be the beneficiary of Big Al double teams. He may still be, but they seem to be making is of his shot outside of that.

will this be televised on any channel?

No TV for this one, only the Bulls game next Sunday will be shown on NBA TV. I have an extra ticket for tonight if anyone's interested, just PM me

I know Orlando are not showing this game either, so probably going to be stuck with the radio.

I'll be there. Excited to be in the "hive" for the first time in a decade.

But I went to that Lance meet and greet thing and I actually asked him if he was playing Monday and he said yeah for sure. So there's that lol

I'm expecting full reports from all of you since this game likely won't be televised at all.

Lance appears to be a sure-thing to play tonight. Good to hear.

I'll definitely be there! Will be nice to see some of my section "neighbors" for the first time since the playoffs. I guess this is the adult equivalent of that first day of school when you hear what everybody did over their summer vacation.  :P

I think this is more of a week-before-school teacher/parent meet and greet. Opening night will be the first day of school. haha

EDIT: I had to edit this post twice because I'm pre-gaming and I am DUHRUNK.

(any girls here? lemme getcho numba)

ANOTHER EDIT: I had typos in that last edit, so I'm fixing them again in this edit. You never know how drunk you are until you realize how drunk you are, amirite?

FWIW the game shows up on NBALiveonline.tv. Not sure if it will work, but it's worth a try. I'm so jonesin for some Hornets action right now.

Not going tonight.  Want to bust my New Hive cherry on the real deal.

first row sports but I don't think they will even have video at all tonight.     NBA tv rules and practices are so fucking stupid its unbelievable.  Hopefully that will change with the new contracts coming up.

They say you can listen to the game on the Hornets app, so I'm hoping that works.

    99-97 Hornets!

For those that saw the game, who stood out?

MKG's numbers looked good with 14 points 4 rebs 2 steals 3 blocks... I'll take those numbers for MKG anytime.
