Game Thread: Charlotte Hornets (3-4) at Portland Trailblazers (4-3) 11/11

The Hornets look to bounce back after losing to the lowly Lakers.

Game Questions:

-Who scores more points: Big Al or Lamarcus Aldridge?
-Who score more: Kemba or Damian Lillard?
-Does Lance shoot over 40% from the field?
-Most importantly: Do the Hornets get back on track and return to .500?

Bonus Question Not Related to this Game:

-If you had to replace one player from the starting lineup with a bench player in order to improve the team, who would it be, and who would be their replacement?

Hornets gotta start showing me something.

Clifford's rotation choices have been a mess so far a lot of times, hoping he gets this thing figured out soon.

    Al

Lillard, we are due a return of road Kemba

No, POR has a bevy of long bigs.

    Probably not.

Zeller for Marv.  Marv's occasional three doesn't make up for the open runway he and Al help create in the paint and Zeller and Maxiell don't pair very well.  (Honestly I'd start Biz over Al just to get the other team's offense off to a bad start and get the rest of the starters more touches so they can contribute in the offense better.  Biz would come out quick and Al would play starter's minutes as usual, just against tired 1st units and crappy 2nd units more to maximize the benefit of his scoring.  Start Biz at the 3rd quarter for the same reason).

    1. Depends on how much Lillard shoots and whether Zeller guards LMA or not. Zeller is probably the best matchup we have against LMA. I'll be going with Al on this on though.

    2. Lillard will score more, but Walker will also wreck havoc on Lillard as he can't guard a single thing

    3. Sooner or later Lance's jump shot will start falling. Let's hope it's now. I'm saying yes.

    4. Hard to say. Walker should be able to score almost at will with Lillard's defense. I'll say we win.

Replacing a player from starting lineup? Marv for Zeller. Nothing wrong with Marv's game, just that Zeller would match up far better against LMA than Marv would.

    • LMA
    • Kemba is due for another big game
    • YES!
    • Unfortunately, I think Portland gets the win tonight

Bonus*** Zeller for Marvin would seem to make sense on the surface, but if you do that then there is one less perimeter shooter in the lineup.  So, I'd keep the lineup as it is.

Actually you are incorrect, its the entire "AL" that is held not just the "A", not that it really matters.

    1. Going Al

    2. Going Lillard in Portland but like last year, Kemba will get his revenge at the Hive.

    3.  Nope.

    4.  All signs point to no, so I'm going yes.

Bonus:  Gary for Lance.  This isn't a condemnation of Lance per se but we need a shooter/scorer to get the offense going off the bat and Gary>Lance at this point.

    maybe half A's half L's?

That's pretty big.  Tied for the team lead in assists, and second in rebounds.

    - Big Al

    - Kemba

    - No

    - No

    Bonus - Cody for Marvin.

Beagle - I understand the idea behind starting Neal over Lance for shooting.  But to me his minor uptick in scoring doesn't outweigh everything else Lance brings.  Neal is a perfect bench player to me.

The argument that is brought up constantly about 3 point shooting is a little overstated to me.  The idea is to give Big Al more room to work by spacing the floor out with shooters, but Al is getting plenty of work.  We are feeding him constantly, and with relative ease despite having almost no 3pt threat.   The shots just aren't falling right now, and the ones we take are usually not the best shot because of over passing. We start taking open shots with confidence and I think we will be fine with this lineup.

    Al

    Kemba

    Yes

    Yes

Finally, some shots fall tonight.   Raindance.

    maybe half A's half L's?

Haha, yeah that sounds just about right

    1) Albertron

    2) I think they'll try to pick and roll us to death, which means Lily will take about 10 3's.  If he's on, than Lily.  But if not, refs will probably still give him 15 FT's.

    3) Over 50%.  It's due time

    4) We got this

I think we're just waiting to see when Zeller takes over the 4.  Probably not until he's able to prove that 20 footer consistently, and maybe even hit a few 3's.

    Let's go Hornets

    Great 1st quarter

Lance surpassed his season average in about 8 minutes.

Keep the pressure on.  Nice start.

Great first half. Like the way P.J came out hitting the three. No surprise Portland made a run at the end of the half. Gotta forget about that & come out with the same effort after halftime.

    finish this one

Hard to win a game when Big AL is sitting on 2 rebounds for the entire night. Thanks Gary Neal for thinking you had all day on that last shot.

We lost that game because we sat MKG the whole fourth quarter while our defense and rebounding was suffering. MKG can provide more than Neal in that situation

I don't care how good Brian Roberts was in the 1st Half of the game. Pargo would do better and so would most of the back-up point guards in the League.
