The 2016 NBA Trade Deadline Thread

We're a little over a week away from the trade deadline (Feb. 18th 3PM EST) and the closer we get to that date, the more the rumors start flying.

Let's use this thread to discuss any trade rumors and deals (Hornets or otherwise) that pop up before the deadline hits.

So far we have rumors of talks between the Bucks and Hornets. Not necessarily involving Kemba and Frank like originally rumored, but according to people in the know there are discussions going on.

If this is anything like past deadlines, it should be a wild ride.

    Article is more speculation.

I can understand why Milwaukee would want Frank

Has the Hornets' F.O. been known to leak info, or are they fairly tight-lipped?

    Extremely tight-lipped among national media.

Blake to Hornets?  (Just an opinion article)

Thanks, I've never heard any major news coming out of Charlotte that wasn't from an official channel. Some teams can't seem to keep anything quiet, like LA or New York.

I'd hate it if we traded MKG for Blake Griffin honestly. I know its just an article someone made up, but I really hope he isn't involved in any deal.

even if it did happen, blake wouldn't resign in charlotte. that rumor is pure speculation and not even realistic speculation at that.

    Unintentional post

    Uh-Oh

    Um......

It's possible that he's simply back after getting some burn. Looking ahead to March, that's one tough schedule.
Yea, he's the last off the bench. They'd have to be getting rid of three guards if they're bringing him back because of a trade.

Non-guaranteed contract. Could be part of a trade for match and cut....or 1 bringing back 2 and Hornets need a roster spot.

    Or it could be nothing.
I'm pretty sure his contract is guaranteed as of last month some time. Not sure if that holds true or not for trades though

Why would we have to bring him back to waive him (for a roster spot)?

No idea. Why would they bring him back?

They have a trade that effectively removes PJ and one of our PGs for something not bringing back a PG/SG would be my best guess. Maybe we just like the cut of his jib.

My guess is that it's mainly two things:

    1) Saturday was the Blue's last game prior to the all-star break, so (in theory) it makes more sense for Harrison to be around the Hornets for a pair of games, even if just in a suit, and whatever off-court work they go through as well rather than just starting winter break a couple days early and...

    2) I can't imagine the team is very happy about Harrison playing backup to Marquis Teague (Aaron only got 7 minutes in their last game) and would like to cycle him to a different D-league team after the break, so they needed him out of OKC in order to re-assign him. This is part of the reason it's important Charlotte have their own D-league franchise - Harrison, and any other rookies they send down, should have what amounts to a detailed individual development plan that the lower-level club is tasked with carrying out, not be afterthoughts on some other NBA franchise's D-league squad. What they're doing right now is a disservice to guys who get assigned.

Or to work with trainers/coach over break (not sure of AS break union rules), or OkC needs the assignment spot, or recalled for a game while medicals happen, etc...we'll know soon enough.

He could barely get PT during blowouts with 8 healthy bodies, and when he did he didn't look like one.

I mean, anything's possible, but the Blue are officially on all-star break right now and Harrison looks like he fell out of the rotation pretty quickly, getting single-digit minutes in a d-league game after two consecutive games shooting 20-odd percent from the field (his first game looks to have been okay statistically). I don't think the question is why Charlotte would recall him, it's why wouldn't they?

^^ OKC Blue don't play again until February 19.

It possible I didn't check for the remainder of 2015-16 but his 2016-17 isn't fully guaranteed. Plus, as an undrafted rookie his contract is treated differently for cap reasons than his actual salary. I believe it's UFA vet minimum scale, not rookie making his hit higher than even late first rounders. Not a deal breaker but there's a reason other than performance to sign undrafted rookies, like trades and roster flexibility.

Exactly. That's almost two weeks of downtime to go back to a team that doesn't appear to have much of a spot for him in the rotation anyway.
