I'm dead set against a Kemba trade. Its hard to get a star in this league. We spent the first decade of bobdom trying hard to get even one, whether through the draft or free agency or trade. And while a joy to watch, the best we did was Gerald Wallace, who would never be counted on to carry a team at the end of a game.
In Kemba, we finally got one. Took some seasoning, but he's it. To be competitive in this league, you need at least 2 stars. It's been hard as hell, whether through draft or free agency or trade. But being one away is better than being 2 away. Derozan & Lowry are a 1-2 offensive punch. Wall & Beal are a 1-2 offensive punch. If we ever had that 2nd fiddle next to Kemba, I honestly feel we'd be right next to Toronto and Washington in the standings.
And no, Big Al and Batum aren't the explosive backcourt mate this team has always needed. Hell, with Lin, we got glimpses of how good the team could be with another guard that teams have to pay attention to.
The contract situation isn't good, but we can make some room. To blow it up, we'd have to figure out how to get the prerequisite 2 stars to relevancy all over again. High picks are such a crap shoot, you could end up with a Bennett or Fultz. And even the glorious Lakers can't seem to attract stars anymore in free agency. Kemba is only 27, we have good complimentary players throughout the roster, just keep plugging away to get Kemba a legitimate sidekick for the first time ever. Starting over from scratch would have been the biggest waste of the last 5 years, and maybe next 5 years to hope to be mediocre again. A big hell no for me.
