According to Woj

I'm happy and excited to see what happens and what his plans are.

Very good hire. Patience is the key. I guess.

There were some available candidates that looked better on paper, but I'm still excited. This guy has a good resume. We definitely could have done worse. Wonder what this means for Kemba

Reading on him a bit - per the Woj report, Kupchak made this hire. MJ didn’t go over his head so we that’s good to know.

It looks like Borrego is defensive minded. I read in an article that when he took over in Orlando their rim protecting numbers improved substantially and their turnover numbers also improved.

With the candidates on the board my expectations were going to be the same regardless. Taking the wait and see approach and hoping for the best.

Not gonna lie, I was more excited to maybe strike gold in a stevens assistant. But whatever, at least it isn't a retread head coach

Yeah hard to say, really. It'll be interesting to see what happens with Messina, Hammon, Udoka, Monty Williams, and Pop himself.

I'd probably view hiring Borrego less favorably if several Spurs land gigs elsewhere, esp. with the Bucks and Spurs.

I think we whittled it down to what seemed like two good value candidates. I had significantly cooled to Messina. He could remain at SAS and take over from Pop but that doesn't convince me he'd fit here. The question is what they saw different out district between Larranaga and Borrego. I have nothing to go by yet so am excited to see what shakes out from here.

One thing that sticks out to me: Borrego is only 40 years old. I would hope they plan to allocate the money to build an experienced staff around him.

Also, you can’t give a young guy with little experience a bad locker room to start. Dwight has to go ASAP.

I'm frustrated.  Not because I know anything.   but because as soon as I get excited about someone the Hornets run in the other direction.

Welcome Borrego.   Lets see what you got.

PS.  Who wants to bet he was the cheapest contract available?

His contract is probably top shelf, we have to worry about the support staff.

I've also read that he cancelled his interview with the Buchs as soon as he received Charlotte's offer.
Looks like he really wants to be here (or with you guys to be more accurate)

I speculated when the Jim Cleamons news came out last week that they may be talking to him in a lead assistant role to pair with a young coach so I have to believe they will give Borrego a staff with some experience.

Experience as mj's network or experience as good nba coaches are two different paths to watch

Love the hire, don’t think this is good news for anti tank fans though
