Did they accidentally select the wrong twin? Isn't Caleb the better shooter and scorer?

My guess is that he’s a more economical/younger replacement for both nick and MKG over the next two years. Plus it’s a double play - you know his brother is going to follow him to the Hornet training camp.

Again smart move Hornets!

I'm OK with this pick.  Dude is 6' 6" and played PG when pressed into the role.  In the NBA he will be able to move off ball or be a secondary ball handler at best.

Cody Martin is potentially very underrated.

A 6-foot-6 nominal college point guard who is also an offense + defense player with projectable defensive skills, and a player who could potentially shoot better from 3 if given enough time to improve his jumper and if moved off the ball (since he’s a killer seventeen foot an in, with both touch and hand-eye coordination).  The prospect profiles of 3&D players who end up being important, since players like these can participate in offenses and not just finish plays, often enough look a little bit like this one. The key here is that the player absolutely needs to be moved off the ball to have any chance to be successful, but once off-the-ball, he’s skilled enough to legitimately provide an offense options.

Notice that Delon Wright doesn’t shoot 3s (partially perhaps because he’s asked to play too much on the ball) and is still a useful NBA player.

I know nothing about this guy.  I'm not gonna pretend i do and honestly players stop being prospects to me after their sophomore year.    Just on the surface level though, this pick is intriguing to me.

First of all, "analytics over eye test" guy.   This is encouraging i think.   Mitch has said things before about ignoring that side of the game, or kind of going with gut over numbers.  This says to me that, while he may go gut over numbers, he's at least still looking at analytics.   You don't pick this guy with the eye test alone in my opinion.    It's just nice to know we haven't gone full Amish in the front office.

It seems like he won't be on ball in the NBA, but I like that he can handle and push at 6'6.  our guard situation as of right now is Kemba/Graham/Bacon/Monk... needless to say, we could use some length in the guard department.

He's old, that's not ideal for a prospect.  But being a non guaranteed player that still has potential AND has more polish to maybe help out sooner is a decent piece to have around.

It's the second round, odds are it's a nothing burger, so I'm not gonna get worked up.  Hope for the best with him.

Into the crevasse!

30 GMs don’t see KD in this kid but you do? Everybody else must be wrong.

Oh thank goodness this guy was joking. There are still people who really think we should have drafted that kid.

Yeah he will be a “break glass in case of an emergency” back-up back-up PG. A poor man’s Tyreke Evans. A well below the poverty line version of Evans.

To me this seems to be the reason why we drafted him instead of his brother. My guess is that we could have waited and gotten this kid later in the 2nd but obliviously the front office was high on him and didn’t want to take the risk of waiting.

“I can tell you that I am in discussions – it has not been finalized – but I’m in discussions with Caleb joining Cody in playing in Charlotte,” Fleisher told NSN. “That would be terrific.”

Caleb Martin went unselected in last Thursday's draft has been weighing his options since then. A potential deal with the Hornets would be more than just a summer league contract, Fleisher said.

It would be beyond that,” the agent said.
