This is a very useful post: focused, informative and well titled. Thanks!

If morning bacon can be on the roster then so should Monk. He needs to improve or get labeled as a another Jordan bust.

Arnoldas Is on the team! Hopefully he’s here to stay. There is a heavy emphasis on forwards. Hopefully this means that this position will be properly addressed this year. It time to plan beyond Marvin and his bloated contract.

If Monk is not playing, it might be a sign that he will likely be involved in a trade.  I am sure Mitch is working hard to unload some bad contracts and hopefully that only Monk and not any other young guys or draft picks will be included.  I have not given up on Monk completely but he sure looks like a bust so far.

I won't say he's a bust until he gets consistent minutes and can't produce.

I absolutely 100% wanted Monk picked where we picked him and thought there was no way that selection would not become an absolute home run at the time.

Now?

I really wish I had known more about Donovan Mitchell and largely regret picking Monk over him. I believed for the first two years and yet, he hasn't provided us with much evidence of improvement. I get what people are saying about giving him more consistent minutes and then we can make a decision, but the issue is, I think that we've seen enough to know he won't get much better. I resented Clifford for a many reasons, but among them in his last year, it was not playing Monk... then when he finally did play him, he looked amazing for many stretches. I figured it was just Clifford sticking it to another rookie again... but after seeing him in extended stretches again last year, I just don't see much more potential. He's just too inconsistent and makes too many of the same mistakes repeatedly. He doesn't have the decision making to be a primary ball handler and he doesn't have the consistency as a shooter to be a guy you can count on for X amount of points every night. He still flashes some amazing athleticism, but that's about it...

I stay 100% confident that even if we drafted Donovan that Cliff would’ve shoved him behind Batum, MKG, Lamb in the line up and we’d of never played him

This is true for all other teams except for Utah as well

I agree. If the Hornets drafted Mitchell he would not be the player he is right now

Like I’ve said about Monk on this forum before. Look at his splits. In his career so far, in games he’s played 20+ minutes he averages about 14.5/2/3 shooting 42% from the field and 36% from 3 in an average of 24 minutes a game. There is a DRASTIC drop off in games where he’s played below 20 minutes. The problem is he’s played below 20 minutes FAR more than above. Monk is the type of player who needs minutes to be productive. We love Kemba so much that we forget the games where he struggles for an entire half and then has a good 2nd half to make up for it. Monks in a position where he doesn’t get the opportunity to make up for struggling half the time. I’ve said it before and I still stand by it. If Monk got CJ McCollum minutes he’d be a CJ McCollum caliber player.

That's a dubious stat to hang your hat on, IMO.

Too many factors play into that split that can't be accounted for.

Now let's take the Monk talk to the Monk thread.
